A Coastal Transformation with Character
Photography by Derek Keller
In SanRoc Cay, Orange Beach, a once-utilitarian commercial space now carries the grace and refinement of a private residence. At 27269 Perdido Beach Boulevard, what began as an attorney’s office is reborn as a sophisticated condo through the vision of designer Cindy Meador. The project embodies her ability to see beyond walls and wiring, shaping spaces that balance elegance with ease.
The ceilings tell the story first. Once purely functional panels from the building’s commercial days, they now lend structure and rhythm, a reminder of the space’s history. Rather than conceal its past, Meador incorporates it, layering thoughtful design over sturdy bones. Every element—from electrical to plumbing—has been reimagined, a full conversion that shifts the property from workspace to retreat.

A Palette of Depth and Dimension
In place of predictable coastal whites, Meador introduces depth. Stained cabinetry, warm wood veneers, and smoky finishes anchor the design, while accents of turquoise tile and layered textures bring freshness. “We didn’t want it to be just black and white,” she explains. “Color adds energy and keeps the space alive.”
Bathrooms become jewel boxes: one clad in deep graphite tile, lit with mirrored sconces, another gleaming with teal subway tile reminiscent of Gulf waters. Bedrooms soften with tactile linens and abstract wall coverings, offering a calm counterpoint to the bold finishes. The effect is refined, inviting, and unexpected—an interior that feels contemporary while firmly rooted in place.

A Collaboration of Craft
Cindy and her design team provide full-service expertise, overseeing everything from flooring and finishes to hardware, lighting, and linens. In this special case, they collaborate with the homeowners—long established in the cabinet business—who bring in their trusted craftsman to execute the cabinetry. The partnership is seamless, and the design comes to fruition beautifully, with custom oil stains and precision detailing giving the residence its distinctive millwork.

Forward Thinking on the Gulf
The aesthetic feels ahead of its time for Baldwin County. While coastal homes often lean light and breezy, this design embraces dimension, layering rich finishes with sophisticated restraint. What once might have felt unconventional now reads as visionary—proof that coastal interiors can move beyond pale palettes without losing their sense of place.
Art punctuates the residence with personality: vintage-style portraits, sculptural wall pieces, and bold abstract canvases. A custom bar, framed in open shelving, turns function into focal point. Lighting fixtures add sculptural punctuation, while carefully chosen furnishings ground the rooms with balance.

The Designer’s Signature
Cindy Meador reflects a rare ability to merge influences. She blends urban sophistication with coastal comfort, creating spaces that are layered, character-driven, and deeply personal. Her work is informed by years of experience in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, and the Coastal South, always adapting to the unique rhythm of her clients and their architecture.

At her Orange Beach showroom and retail store on 25299 Canal Road, Suite A4, Meador extends that sensibility to the public. The shop features curated furnishings, art, textiles, and accessories, and serves both homeowners and trade professionals. Beyond retail, her firm provides comprehensive design services, from new construction and renovations to custom draperies, bed linens, and consultations.
A Space Renewed
The residence stands as a testament to vision and craft. What was once fluorescent-lit and purely functional now offers warmth, sophistication, and individuality. It is at once modern and timeless, comfortable yet polished—a reflection of Meador’s guiding principle: design that grows out of place and character.
For Meador, every project begins with listening. In this case, she listens to the history of the building, the aspirations of her clients, and the rhythm of the Gulf itself. The result is a home that doesn’t just exist on Perdido Beach Boulevard—it belongs there.
