What began as a simple renovation concept soon evolved into a far grander vision under Vlahos’s guidance. When Vlahos introduced the homeowners to renowned architectural designer Bob Chatham, the initial plan to refurbish the existing home quickly gave way to the idea of building a completely new residence. “During our discussions, the homeowners posed the idea, ‘What if we just take this home down and build a new one?’” recalls Chatham. That moment marked a pivotal shift in the project, and Vlahos, alongside Chatham, began sketching the first plans for a new build.

Chatham enlisted designer Kathy Heard to refine the plans further. “Together, the three of us collaborated closely to shape what we knew would become a truly magnificent home,” says Chatham.

For Vlahos, building with an eye toward sustainability is paramount. His philosophy centers on creating homes designed not only for today but for future generations, ensuring that the legacy of craftsmanship and quality endures long beyond the completion of the build.

Interior designer Allyson Runnels collaborated closely with Vlahos and the team to ensure that the home was not only beautiful but functional. “This home is meant to be lived in,” Runnels explains. “The materials were carefully chosen, and the furnishings complement the scale and purpose of the space.”

Among the estate’s most striking features is a barrel-vaulted Venetian plaster ceiling, radiating timeless grandeur. The three-story floating staircase, a feat that involved five specialized teams, is complemented by a custom chandelier crafted by a New York artist, enhancing the home’s luxurious design.

Expansive 24-foot sliding glass doors effortlessly dissolve the boundaries between the interior of the home and the captivating waterfront oasis that unfolds outside. “It’s not just about having a view—it’s about making it an integral part of the experience,” Vlahos explains. As the doors open wide, the outdoors are brought seamlessly inside, transforming the space into an immersive escape. 

The shimmering surface of the resort-like pool mirrors the calm beauty of Bayou St. John, where boats glide smoothly over the reflective waters. The serene setting envelops you, blending the tranquil waters with breathtaking vistas that make you feel as though you’ve entered your own world. Terraces extend outward, inviting you to absorb the full panoramic view, where vibrant sunsets paint the sky in rich hues of orange, pink, and purple, casting a warm glow over the landscape. This seamless fusion of indoor and outdoor spaces creates a sanctuary, offering not only visual delight but a profound sense of tranquility that transcends time and place.
